Ukraine - Cabinet waiting for health ministry report on "black market" for medicines
The Cabinet is taking additional measures to prevent the spread of the flu epidemic in Ukraine.
During today’s meeting, the Cabinet is to hear a report by Minister of Health Vasyl Kniazevych on the state of implementation of the order banning the sale of antibiotics, antibacterial and antiviral drugs without a prescription.
The government will also review procedures for providing the population with free gauze masks.
Yulia Tymoshenko’s government is taking a tough stance against the "black market" for medicine. "This isn’t only an economic issue, but first and foremost one of the safety of our citizens," First Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov believes.
Given the epidemic, it is a priority for the government to supply all hospitals with necessary items for the prevention and treatment of illness and satisfy the increased demand for medical supplies at drugstores.
In late October, Oleksandr Turchynov warned pharmacy owners about their responsibility for unjustifiably increasing prices for cold and flu medicines. The Cabinet appealed to drugstore owners to not take advantage of people’s problems and change prices.
