China, New Zealand pledge to strengthen military cooperation
China and New Zealand pledged to strengthen military cooperation
during talks between Chen Bingde, chief of the General Staff
of the People's Liberation Army of China, and Richard Rhys Jones,
head of New Zealand's Defense Force on Monday.
Chen said the China-New Zealand relationship is at its best
in history and the two militaries maintain a positive momentum
"China attaches great importance to developing military
relations with New Zealand, and the Chinese military is willing
to work with New Zealand to strengthen dialogue and pragmatic
cooperation between the two militaries in order to promote relations
to a higher level," Chen said.
Jones said New Zealand also prioritizes the development of relations
with China and the two countries enjoy wide common interests.
He hopes the two militaries can enhance cooperation on peace
keeping, fighting pirates, humanitarian assistance and disaster
"The two militaries should increase personnel exchanges
and build a stronger relationship in order to jointly safeguard
peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region," Jones said.
