Russia remains strategic partner of Turkmenistan in oil and gas sector

Turkmenistan maintains strategic cooperation in the oil and gas industry with his long-standing partner - Russia, although the global economic crisis has slowed down the pace of implementation of joint projects. This was announced by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, answering the question of Pakistani journalist at a press briefing in Ashgabat on September 30.

"Our meetings with the President of the Russian Federation, as well as permanent interaction between companies of our countries have shown that the mutually beneficial partnership is promising," the head of state said. He recalled the Interstate Agreement on Expansion of Strategic Cooperation in Energy and Engineering signed by the parties, which provides for joint projects in the oil and gas industry, including the Caspian gas pipeline.

"However, having large reserves of natural gas, which Turkmenistan could offer to other prospective buyers in the coming years, Ashgabat is exploring new possibilities of exports of energy resources to the promising European market," the Turkmen leader said.
