Closer economic cooperation between Sweden and Russia

On 30 March, Minister for Trade Ewa Björling will receive Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov, who is visiting Stockholm with a broad delegation. The meetings will take place within the framework of the Swedish-Russian Steering Committee, which is a trade and economic cooperation forum at ministerial level.

The aim, Dr Björling says, is to develop cooperation between Sweden and Russia in the areas of economy, trade and investments:

"Russia is a growing market where Swedish companies can play an important role in meeting the country's needs in many different areas, such as energy efficiency, IT and telecommunications and infrastructure. Because Swedish companies are at the forefront, the potential really is huge," says Dr Björling.

Subjects for discussion at the meeting will include Swedish-Russian cooperation to benefit Russian policy to modernise energy efficiency and other areas. During the visit, the Russian delegation will also meet representatives of the Swedish business community. Swedish exports to Russia have increased sharply in recent years.
