Closer economic cooperation between Sweden and Russia
On 30 March, Minister for Trade Ewa Björling will
receive Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov, who is
Stockholm with a broad delegation. The meetings will take place
within the framework of the Swedish-Russian Steering Committee,
which is a trade and economic cooperation forum at ministerial
The aim, Dr Björling says, is to develop cooperation between
Sweden and Russia in the areas of economy, trade and investments:
"Russia is a growing market where Swedish companies can
play an important role in meeting the country's needs in many
different areas, such as energy efficiency, IT and telecommunications
and infrastructure. Because Swedish companies are at the forefront,
the potential really is huge," says Dr Björling.
Subjects for discussion at the meeting will include Swedish-Russian
cooperation to benefit Russian policy to modernise energy efficiency
and other areas. During the visit, the Russian delegation will
also meet representatives of the Swedish business community.
Swedish exports to Russia have increased sharply in recent years.
