Italy is extremely concerned about the escalation of the violence
The Foreign Ministry, which is closely following the situation
along with its European partners, condemns all forms of violence.
Italy is “extremely concerned about the escalation of the violence” in Syria and “is closely following the situation along with its European partners”. Italy “condemns all forms of violence”.
These points were made by the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maurizio Massari, who was asked by the ANSA news agency to comment on the situation in Syria. Massari said that the Ministry hopes to see “a halt to the violent repression of the demonstrations” and the adoption by the government in Damascus of the reforms that have been announced and are expected by the population.
“We are following the situation closely along with our European partners”, explained Massari, “and we are extremely concerned about the escalation of the violence” in the country. Violence which “we condemn in any form”. Italy hopes to see “the cessation of the violent repression of the demonstrations”.
“We also hope that the Government of Damascus will provide a prompt and concrete response on the reforms that have been announced and are expected by civil society. The implementation of which would play a significant role in stabilising the country. A stabilisation which Italy, as a partner and friend of Syria and its people, strongly hopes to see”.
