Slovakia - V4: Eastern Partnership a priority during Slovakia’s Presidency
Minister of Foreign Affairs Miroslav Lajčák is attending an informal meeting of Foreign Ministers of the European Union and the Eastern Partnership Member States in Polish Sopoty. This is the first meeting of the kind under the Spanish EU Presidency. The Foreign Ministers of the 27 Member States and 6 partner states will discuss the future of the programme with particular focus on its further orientation and funding. Slovakia considers the Eastern Partnership an important tool for neighbourly cooperation and intends to include it among the top priorities during its V4 Presidency from 1 July. The Eastern Partnership was launched at the EU summit in Prague in May last.
It is a new form of cooperation between the EU and its Member States with 6 Eastern partners of the European Neighbourhood Policy (Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan). The principal value added of the Eastern Partnership is an introduction of a multilateral format of cooperation. The Partnership does not offer a vision for EU accession, but focuses on political association and integration in the EU economy.
