Security Progress remains Key Focus for ISAF, following McChrystal's resignation
There has been no change to the International Security Assistance Force’s mission of working with the Government of Afghanistan to defeat the insurgency and build a strong national security force.
The acting Commander, Lt. Gen. Sir Nick Parker said today, “we remain absolutely focused on our tasks and the operational tempo will not miss a beat”.
He added, “troops from the 46 nations of ISAF have made substantial security gains in recent months. While we face a tough summer ahead, strong leadership, the focus of the soldiers on the ground and our partnership with Afghan security forces, will ensure that we defeat an insurgency that has brought so much suffering to Afghanistan.”
The United States President Barack Obama has nominated General David Petraeus to replace General Stanley McChrystal as the ISAF Commander. The nomination will go through the US and NATO confirmation process.
Lt. Gen. Parker will be the acting Commander of the ISAF forces until General Petraeus takes command.
No date has been set for the change in command.
