Israeli DM Barak met with Quartet envoy Tony Blair

Next week talks are expected to begin in Washington, and we are all genuinely hopeful that a way will be found to move forward.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak met today (Tuesday), 24 August 2010, with Quartet Special Envoy to the Middle East, Tony Blair. Following is DM Barak's statement from the meeting:

"We cordially welcome Quartet Representative Tony Blair on his visit to Israel as part of the Quartet's efforts, together with the United States and other, to bring about a breakthrough in the negotiations between us and the Palestinians.

Next week talks are expected to begin in Washington, and we are all genuinely hopeful that a way will be found to move forward. It is clear to us that courageous decisions are needed from both sides. Israel is prepared to do so, while safeguarding its vital interests, and we hope that the other side will find the strength to do so as well."
