Iranian President Ahmadinejad, Iraqi counterpart Talabani underlined expansion of friendly ties

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Iraqi counterpart, Jalal Talabani, in a telephone conversation on Thursday congratulated each other on the advent of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Ahmadinejad said that unity and solidarity among Muslims are the prerequisite for security, progress and might.

He also said that development of Tehran-Baghdad ties is in the interest of the region.

“Iran supports Iraq’s unity and internal security” he noted.

Talabani, for his part, congratulated the Iranian nation and government on the advent of fasting month of Ramadan and said that the two countries’ ties are deep-rooted and Iran’s support plays crucial role in further understanding and unity in Iraq.

Iraqi nation and government consider Iran as their brother, Talabani said.

President Ahmadinejad also held similar phone conversations with Saudi Arabia's King Abullah and the Qatari emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, on Thursday.
