David Cameron appointed British Prime Minister

David Cameron has been appointed Prime Minister and invited to form a Government by The Queen.

Mr Cameron has travelled to Buckingham Palace to meet The Queen and will then continue to 10 Downing Street.

Gordon Brown told the press it was "a privilege to serve" before heading to Buckingham Palace to tender his resignation to the Queen.
